Katharine Higginson

MS CCC-SLP

Kat is a North Carolina native and current resident of Raleigh, where she lives with her Australian Shepherd mix, Oakley. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina State University and recently completed her Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at East Carolina University. Kat is thrilled to begin her career as a clinical fellow at NWT.

Kat’s passion for working in this field stems from her personal experience with her father, who is deaf in his left ear. Kat has experience working with all ages as she has served patients between 11 months to 70 years old, but has a special interest in working with pediatrics. She has provided diagnostic and therapeutic services in a variety of settings including schools, community clinics, and private practice settings. During such work, Kat gained experience in working with those who have expressive/receptive language delays, childhood apraxia of speech, articulation disorders, fluency disorders, and phonological processing disorders. Additionally, Kat had the opportunity to work with deaf and hard of hearing patients through her time as an intern at the Children’s Cochlear Implant Center at UNC where she decided to pursue her certification in Auditory Verbal Therapy. She is familiar with and has worked with a variety of diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In Kat’s free time, you will find her trying out new coffee shops, volunteering in her church nursery, walking her dog, and hanging out with friends and family.
